Buenos Aires: The City
The city of Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina. It is a large metropolis,that together with the suburbs, has eleven million inhabitants. It is considered the most elegant city of South America. Despite its modern architecture and dynamic activity, it preserves old traditions. Visitors will enjoy its monuments, churches, museums, art galleries and theatres, colonial neighborhoods, large commercial centers, typical restaurants and international cuisine. The Teatro Colón (Opera House), inaugurated in 1908, is the pride of the city and hosts the most famous artists of national and international opera and ballet. An exciting night-life is offered through different amusements, including the well-known local music and dance, the Tango. Late dinner-shows, late cinema and theatres functions, as well as late dining are almost a traditional routine of nightlife lovers. All types of international cuisine are available, although the best represented are the country’s national dishes, the excellent quality of Argentine meat is famous all over the world
Passports and Visas
All foreign visitors entering Argentina must present valid passports or other internationally recognized travel documents. It is recommended that delegates find out, from the nearest Argentine embassy or consulate in their Countries, the requirements for visas and custom regulations.
Climate and Clothing
The weather in Buenos Aires in autumn is fairly warm and pleasant, although occasional rain may occur. Temperature is between 15°C (62ºF) and 25°C (83°F). Jackets and sweaters are recommended particularly for the evenings.
Currency
The National Monetary Unit of Argentina is the Peso. Exchange facilities are available at the airport, major hotels and exchange agencies.
Electricity
Throughout Argentina, the electricity supply is 220 volts/50Hz. Most hotels provide 110 volts outlets.
Liability
The Organizing Committee will not be liable for personal accidents or loss/damage of private properties of congress participants either during the congress or during any of the tours. It is therefore recommended that participants arrange their own personal health, accident and travel insurance.
